Nijo Castle

Former Imperial Villa Nijo-jo Castle has witnessed the changes of Japan, including the prosperity and decline of the Tokugawa Family.

 

The Palace is designated as a National Treasure since it is the only surviving example of a fortified palace complex.

Inside Nijo Castle, you can enjoy unique survivals from one of the golden ages of Japanese architecture and design, the early Edo period, known for its ornate architecture and magnificent interiors.

Shinsenen

First built in the year 794, According to the records, the site originally extended approximately 400 meters from north to south and about 200 meters from east to west. When the Nijō Castle was built, the land was absorbed by the castle grounds, reducing its size. It is now known as the oldest garden in Kyoto.

Takenobu Inari Shrine

The Takenobu Inari Shrine is an old shrine that has been around since the Heian period.

It is well known for assisting expecting couples with selecting baby names.

There is a sacred Enoki tree on the grounds, which is 850 years old and is worshiped as a god of health and longevity due to its vitality and energy. This tree is also known as the god of matchmaking and love.

Mikane Shrine

Enshrined here is a god called "Kaneyama-hiko-no-kami," who appears in a myth of ancient Japan as the god of mining. Money, which was originally made of various metals.
